What’s is this “Microblading”, “Microshading” and “Combo Brows”?

There are several different styles of brows to choose from.

Microblade: This technique mimics eyebrows using thin micro blades to create hair-like etches, filled with colored pigments. This is great for those who already have eyebrow hair and are needing to make them look more fuller.

Ombre Brows: Also referred to as "powdered brows" or ""microshade" is a technique that creates a more complete look. This is ideal for those who are not wanting to fill in their brows everyday.

Combo Brows: This technique incorporates both Microblade & Microshade. Microblade is used at the front of each brow to create the hair-like stroke, then the rest will be filled in with the Microshade technique. This is great for those wanting something a little natural but with a more defined look.

How to prepare

  • Do not work out 24 hours before procedure.

  • NO alcohol or caffeine 48 hours before procedure (Yes, there is caffeine in decaf coffee and tea!).

  • Avoid sun and tanning one week prior to procedure.

  • Do not take Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E or Advil/Ibuprofen 48 hours before procedure.

  • Avoid Fish Oil 24 hours prior.

  • Discontinue Retin-A at least 2 weeks prior.

  • Botox and filler on the forehead, temple, and eye area should be avoided 2 weeks prior to procedure for those who do not regularly receive injectables.

  • No brow waxing, tinting, or threading one week prior (the more natural hair growth you have, the better!

  • Avoid Chemical Peels, Microdermabrasion or facials for 2 weeks prior procedure.

Aftercare

  • Keep the the brow area clean by using a natural fragrance-free gel cleanser (such as Cetaphil) and water.  Hands must be freshly clean . Avoid use of abrasive washcloths or sponges.

  • Allow eyebrows to completely air dry before applying ointment. Apply the after care ointment given  (for the amount of days recommended by your artist) with freshly washed hands or a Q-Tip.

  • DO NOT rub, pick or scratch the treated area. Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate off. Picking can cause scarring and pigment loss!

  • COMPLETELY avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds for a minimum of 4 weeks after your procedure.  Direct sunlight can cause the pigment to change color while it is healing and can also cause hyper pigmentation and scarring.

  • Avoid pool, sauna, steam rooms, hot showers and/or hot baths for 2 weeks.

  • Avoid sweating for 2 weeks. This may cause pigments to fade faster.

  • Avoid sleeping on your face/brows for the first 2 weeks.

  • NO makeup or skincare products to be used on the treated area for 2 weeks.

  • NO facials, chemical treatments and microdermabrasion near the brow area for 2 weeks.

  • NO botox for 2 weeks. We recommend that it’s best to wait until after your touch up heals to get Botox, as an educated injector will take your new brows into consideration when choosing where to inject.

  • After 14 days, once the area has healed completely, consider using sunblock when going out in the sun to stop the color from fading.

Is there any downtime?

Yes, typically 10 - 14 days. Some may heal sooner, some may heal longer. This is referred to as the "healing process".

What to expect during the "healing process"

The healing process is just as important as the appointment. During this time, it is important to properly care for your brows. Your brows may appear darker, become itchy and start to scab & peel. It is imperative to not scratch or pick on your brows.

1-3 days immediately after the procedure, you'll be in the healing stage. You may have swelling, redness skin sensitivity, minor bruises and/or slight discomfort. These are all normal side effects. You may take over the counter pain relievers.

4-7 days after the procedure, the top layer of the skin will start to become flaky, itchy and may start peeling off. Do your best to avoid picking or itching. Let them heal naturally. If they become too itchy, just lightly tap on the area. The new exposed pigments will eventually soften and settle into an appropriate  natural appearance. To help aid the healing process, you may apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment or aquaphor at night before bed.

8-10 days after the procedure, scabbing and shedding occurs. There may have the urge to scratch the area, refrain from doing this because there is a chance the pigments can fall out. You may smooth the area with a cold, not frozen, cold compress or face clothes (lightly damp, not wet). The best healing component is simply, oxygen. If it's tolerable, it's best to simply let your skin breathe.

10-14 days after the procedure, the initial "intense" color will have almost faded and the desired color shade will start appearing

When should a client book their appointment?

It is highly recommended that clients book their appointments at least 3 months in advance of any trips, important events and any special occasions. This will give you proper time to heal after the initial appointment and the touch up that is required at least 6 weeks after.

Fading into a gray or blue?

Most tattooing pigments are formulated with a brown or black pigment. All of these pigments have varying degrees of blue in them, and blue is the last color to fade out. When the upper colors such as reds and yellows fade, the last remaining tone is blue/gray. Adding an orange based modifier is necessary to prevent this occurrence, although it is not fool proof - even with a modifier it can happen.

Anything we can do to stop the grays or blues?

All pigments fade. There is no such thing as an ink or pigment that does not fade with time and UV radiation. The eyebrow area is unique in its position - it is always exposed.

Other tattoo areas such as the eye area are covered with the brow bone and lashes, so they fade much more slowly. Body tattoos use different inks with larger molecules that can hold in the skin for a longer duration of time, but even they will eventually fade.

Until a pigment is invented that has the ability to avoid the human body's own defense mechanisms, as well as UV damage, fading will always be an issue. At this point in time, the best we can do is touch up as needed, wear sunscreen, and follow your practitioner's after care advice. When the colors start shifting or fading, often after 1-3 years, it is time to have a touch up.

Are touch ups included?

Touch ups are not included. Although they are highly recommended to be touched up 6 - 10 weeks after your initial session, some clients just don't need it. Which is why we priced our services at a lower rate. You can decide if you need a touch up.

How long will it last?

The microblading procedure is a semi-permanent tattoo. Like all tattoos, microblading can fade, depending on multiple factors, including the quality of pigment/ink used, UV exposure, elements found in skincare products, and/or medications. The treatment lasts from 18 to 30 months, although it can sometimes last for up to 3 years. A touch-up session is encouraged 6 weeks after the first microblading procedure, and every 12–18 months thereafter.

What's the process?

Creating the right brows will take time. Unfortunately it's not a 1 and done type of thing. Brows are typically a 2-step process. Your initial appointment will consist of measuring, shaping, styling and selecting the right color.

Following your initial appointment 6 - 12 weeks later, once the brows have healed the the true results have appeared, we will fill in any imperfections that may have occurred and refresh the look.

Additional touch ups are a separate cost.
